Proposed activities for 2003
- Heritage
Plantation - early June - British car show at the Heritage
Plantation in Sandwich, Ma. Scenic location, world famous
Rhododendron gardens. Co-sponsored by Cape Cod British Car Club.
- British Car Day - late June - Larz
Anderson Auto Museum. Additional activities?
- British
Invasion - Stowe, VT. Sept 18 - 21.
The following paragraphs are from the British Invasion Website describing
the activities that are planned by the organizers.
- Northeast Kingdom Driving Tour - Thursday (Chris Francis, Tour Leader)
- For those arriving in Stowe early, this driving tour will leave
from Ye Olde England Inne on Thursday morning, around 10:00 AM, for a
scenic Vermont country drive to the shore of Lake Willoughby in the
Northeast Kingdom, where a special lunch has been planned. This is
one of the prettiest spots in Vermont and a great drive over paved
roads.
-
Driving Tour - Friday (leaving from the High School Parking Lot)
-
A driving tour of the scenic Vermont countryside, and
parade through town, which will culminate at the show field at the
beginning of the Registrants' Reception. The tour will travel over
paved roads around Stowe.
-
The Notch Run Driving Tour - Sunday (leaving from the
High School Parking Lot - 8:30 AM)
-
A driving tour of the scenic Vermont countryside,
which will culminate at the show field. Leaving from the High School
parking lot the tour will travel over paved roads through the Notch
for a 70-minute morning drive.
-
Tailgate Picnic Competition - Sunday
-
A display of creativity, good food, and things
British. This event has become a "Classic" and perhaps one of the
best Tailgate Competitions on the East Coast! Awards will be given
for "Most Elegant", "Most Creative", "Most British", "Best Costume",
"Best Tasting", "Most Practical", "Most Outrageous", and "Most
Humorous".
-
Bull Pull - Sunday
-
This has become an annual highlight of the British
Invasion. This is a British Car Club tug-o-war competition that pits
the pulling might of one British Car Club against another. One of
the mooring lines from the "Queen Elizabeth" (Cunnard Sea Lines
luxury cruise ship - Retired) is used, and cheating is encouraged in
this demonstration of brute human pulling power for a cash award,
which has often been donated to the Vermont Children's Aid Society.
Team Costumes are encouraged, but seldom seen. Men, Women, Children,
and Dogs are all invited to help pull their club to victory. A real
blast to watch!
For NELLI Members Only: We are planning a barbeque
for Saturday night at the home of a Stowe resident
(NELLI member to be).
A NELLI Sunday morning breakfast has been suggested.
Caravan to Stowe on Friday(?). Cars meet at
designated spoots along the way from Rhode Island to Vt.
- LOG 23 - Niagara Falls, NY. August 15, 16, 17.
Additional activities? Caravan to the event?
A NELLI Saturday breakfast has been suggested.
- Lime Rock Park
- Memorial Day weekend - races.
- Labor Day Weekend - Vintage Fall Festival
- Caravan to races, corral, other
- Club dates - tag on
- F1 Boston in Braintree - club
competition. This is an indoor go-kart facility that is very well
done and very popular. Indoors means that it would make a good
winter event.
F1Boston NELLI Preview
- Kancamangus
Highway tour. About 90 miles. Stop in Lincoln for lunch? Pack
a lunch? Start at some parking lot near Conway and leave trailers.
Conway to Bear Mountain Road to Bartlett to Rte 302 to Route 3 at
Twin Mountain, to Lincoln, to Kancamangus Highway to Conway.
- Lotus Dealer, Boston. Tech session? Other.
- Tour of local restoration facility facility and tech session.
The company does high level restorations on fairly exotic cars,
particularly Ferraris.
- Western Mass. Tour - Athol - Route 32N to 68W to Warwick, to
Northfield to Route 63S. Then East on ?? to North Leverett and
Moores Corner and Locks Village, then to Shutesbury to Route 202
South to Route 9E to Ware, then to Alternate Route32N to Route 122E
to Route 32N to Athol. About 90 Miles. Lunch stop along the way.
NOTE: This is only a "for instance". I haven't even driven these
roads, and there may be many others that are better.
- Autocross at Ft Devens. Mark Michalski is looking into this. He
knows that SCCA runs there and has already had discussions with them.
He is also investigating other autocross and track day sites and
groups.
- Breakfast cruise. Get together for a Sunday breakfast and a
cruise (LOONY has been doing this for some time), perhaps as often as
monthly. Various members could host the breakfast and organize the
cruise in different geographical areas.
- Outing to Mt. Wachusett - central Mass. Beautiful location and
great views. Perhaps this could be combined with #10 and do a
central/western Mass tour that includes Mt. Wachusett with a picnic
lunch on the mountain.
- Skip Barber day at
Limerock. Perhaps we could get a big enough group together to have a
day with the Skip Barber School at Limerock with a group discount.
- A trip to the Canadian GP. The Formula 1 race at Montreal is
being held on June 13, 14 & 15. Arrive in the area Thursday or
Friday pm and stay overnight. Travel to the track for practice on
Friday, qualifying on Saturday and the race on Sunday. There is
usually a supporting race or two as well. General admission is
around $75.00.
